PEACE LIFE ROSE LOVE
The Art of JOHN ROMI
Since 2004, when I started studying John Romi’s art, I noticed the uniqueness in his work, which was derived from the themes and compositions that dominated the post-WWII art movements. From the idealism and reason of the famous Expressional Abstracts such as Frank Stella and Atila to the skepticism and suspicion of reason presented by the renowned postmodernism artists such as Arman, Francois Morellet, and Robert Breer.
Although John’s artworks may look somewhat similar to those movements from the surface, those who deeply analyze his work would easily discover that his work is quite advanced and so far from the simple approach of the mentality that created those artworks.
John’s magical secret is somewhat invisible because he uses a two-dimension background to dynamically attract the viewers with his main touches, the 3D Cuneiform symbols.
Those symbols wisely and artistically represent his inner love, joy, and sadness vs. the state of or tendency toward being predominantly concerned with and obtaining gratification from what is outside him. In short, it is like having black and white on the same surface or like living the day and night at the same moment!
